Pre-treatment Station - Seine Aval Purification

DESIGN : Competition 2007
COST : €300 million excluding taxes

The project forms part of a global site renovation expanding across two villages, Achères and Saint-Germain-en-Laye, extending over a plain between a forest area and the Seine.  The plant project showcases the plain's potential by highlighting all of the perceptions and uses of this location, and was conceived as a landscape sculpture, a green ribbon unifying disparate spaces. Under its planted roofs, the grit/oil removal building, a major component of the constructed environment, disappears from view, to be replaced with a sculpture-garden comprising planted volumes of stonecrops. The aim is also to highlight the entrances to the site as well as the views from the surrounding hills, bringing them into a cohesive unit offering a qualitative visual experience to river users. The addition of a new contemporary garden recreates a greened continuity with the site's historic garden, all while promoting biodiversity and new uses by means of gentle associations.
